It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas … in Key West!

If you're accustomed to snowmen and winter coats in December, Christmas in Key West may seem a little … different. When much of the country is shivering through sub-freezing temperatures, Key West is enjoying 60-degree weather with sunshine and a just a little wind. There may be less chance of a sunburn in December, but Christmas in Key West is still a beautiful time to visit and an excellent place to get away from the frozen North and experience a sunny

December 25th.

As lovely as it is to spend Christmas in Key West, beware: The holiday week marks the beginning of Key West's busy season, which means bigger (though not unmanageable) crowds and higher prices. If you are planning to spend Christmas in Key West, book as soon as possible to ensure you get a room and that you get it at a reasonable price. Call the hotel or guesthouse directly to negotiate rates; who knows, maybe the staff will give you the gift of a discount!

Once you arrive in Key West to spend Christmas, get settled into your accommodations and head into Old Town. This year, 2013, has some new and very exciting Christmas events in store. Check out the Key West “Bight” Before Christmas down on the corner of Green St. The Harbor Walk will be lit up in holiday lights from November 27 through Christmas, creating a merry and wonderfully bright atmosphere for walking through with your sweetie or family.

December, 2013 also marks the start of the first annual Key West Holiday Fest. The festivities begin on December 1 with the Key West Artisan Market on Eaton St. This Key West Christmas attraction features art, food, wine, craft beer, shopping, and entertainment. Next up is the Key West Holiday Parade on December 7, filled with creatively decorated cars and floats, as well as an appearance by Key West High School's marching band. Don't miss the fest's crowning event – the 23rd annual Schooner Wharf Lighted Boat Parade!

On December 15, check out Key West's Christmas on the Sheriff's Animal Farm. This kid-friendly event is free and open to the public. At 3 pm, head over to the Southernmost Point to participate in the setup of the southernmost Christmas tree and community party sponsored by Monroe Association for ReMARCable Citizens.
 
When packing to spend Christmas in Key West, remember that although December days are relatively mild, the nights can turn chilly before you know it. Pack a sweater, light jacket, or cardigan to put on after the sun goes down and wear jeans or capris. It's also better to wear closed-toe shoes during December in Key West; you don't want to be uncomfortable walking around with cold feet!


Christmas in Key West is a magical time. Although it is a popular tropical destination and a sun-lover's paradise, it is also a small town full of people and families who want to celebrate a beautiful Christmas together. Come join us!
