Key West The Right Way

6 Top Ways to DO Key West on a BUDGET!

So you want to go to Key West but think you can’t afford it? We think you can! Read on for the how to’s! Top 6 Ways to DO KEY WEST on a BUDGET!

1. COME TO KEY WEST DURING THE OFF SEASON

We can’t say it enough. The off-season here rocks, and a lot of people don’t even realize how much cheaper it is. The official off season is April-December, but we think the best three months to visit are May, September and early October. Why? Everything is cheaper, less crowded, and the deals abound. Airfare and hotel lodging are also on the cheap. You will be shocked at the amount of money you can save on an off-season trip—so much so that you might just come back AGAIN with all the money you saved! Go to Party In Key West's site HERE.

2. SLEEP OFF THE BEATEN PATH

Hotel lodging can make or break the bank, depending on where you stay. One of our best insider tips is to stay in a hotel or motel that is not on Duval Street (the main street in Key West) or next to a big attraction like the boardwalk or Southernmost point. In other words, find a hotel off the beaten path, or better yet, stay in a guesthouse! A guest house is a phenomenal way to save money, as well as add intimacy and charm to your visit. There are a slew of B&Bs, guest houses and family-owned inns to choose from. CLICK HERE to See some Key West Hotels.

3. INDULGE IN THE FREEBIES

There are a gazillion things free things to do in Key West. From the sunset celebration in Mallory Square, strolling Duval Street, visiting the Key West Wildlife Center, and throwing a Frisbee nekkid at the beach (you may get in trouble, but people do it!). hey weren’t kidding when they said some of the best things in life are free.

4. MANGIA IN SEPTEMBER!

Shhh… Here’s a little-known, insider secret: September restaurants in Key West have killer dining specials. If you come here for the food alone, you will save a bundle.  Azur Restaurant has a September special $7 menu. Come on, dinner for six bucks? What’s not to love? That’s five more free margaritas for you!

5. DRIVE...OR TAKE THE FERRY

You can take a ferry from Fort Myers Beach to Key West. Why drive if you can do this? With
plenty of seats, a bar stocked with bevvies, snacks and food, and even multiple TVs in the off-chance the breathtaking view is a bore!

6. DO WHAT THE KEY WEST LOCALS DO!

Everyone that has done even a little internet research on Key West knows about Duval Street, the Mallory Square Sunset Celebration, and the Ernest Hemingway House. Those are must-sees! But we think the best way to save money and have a blast is to walk in the shoes of the locals. Dig a little deeper in your research (and check out THIS web site!!) for some cool, lesser-known adventures like the wacky Key West Cemetery, West Martello Tower, the unmarked home of Tennessee Williams, free Higgs Beach, and free wine and cheese gallery openings.

So come on down on a budget! The weather in Key West is HOT. The beers are cold. The pools are heaven. The nightlife is a fantasy. You don’t have to be a billionaire to visit Paradise. You just have to visit.

Ten Best Happy Hours in Key West

It's 5 o'clock Somewhere!

Hey, it is called HAPPY Hour for a reason, people! Sure, it may be more than an hour long, but it does pretty much guarantee happiness. And what’s not to smile about? You get cheap booze, free bar snacks (some places go all out – not just nachos!), menu specials, and a bunch of people that gather for these goodies to get happy!

Happy hour is a great way to blow off steam after a long day at work, or if you are on vacation in Key West , it is an even better afternoon way to segue between the day’s amazing tourist events and the happening nightlife to come. You can usually find locals and tourists mingling together, so it is a great way to meet people on your Key West getaway.
There are lots of bars and pubs in glorious Key West to get your drink on, but we believe this Top 10 has the most happening Happy Hours of all.

10. Half Shell Raw Bar

This is an old school Key West joint: located on the water, wooden picnic tables, fishermen unloading the day’s catch in the restaurants fish market, and a totally happening Happy Hour including some of the best catches of the day.

9. Bagatelle

From 4-6pm enjoy 2/1 glasses of wine and a small plates menu that you will love! It's a great place on Duval Street to people watch and drink and eat without breaking the bank.

8. Conch Republic Seafood

This place is a must-visit on your trip! Some of the best seafood in town, the locals love it as much
as the tourists. Fresh seafood is delivered daily to the restaurant’s docks, and Happy Hour is filled with 2-for-one’s galore. Get your drink and food on and meet new friends!

7. Margaritaville

What would a trip to Key West be without a stop at Jimmy Buffett’s famous bar?? It is right on Duval Street, the main drag of the island, so you will be right in the middle of all the fun. There are 2 Happy Hours here: 5-7PM and 10pm-midnight, so you can enjoy $3 beers and the famous Cheeseburger in Paradise to your heart’s content.

6. Santiago's Bodega

You will just love this place: there is an outdoor garden area to dine or inside bar or table service. From 3-6pm enjoy a $6 menu and 50% all drinks. You probably need to make a reservation because this place is a hot spot!

5. Vino's

This one is a wine bar (as you can tell by the name), and offers a slightly different vibe than the pub scene. It is romantic, has a great outdoor porch to people watch, has a great sangria Happy Hour, great wine and craft beer, and they even offer blankets to patrons to snuggle up while sitting at the bar! I mean come on, what’s not to adore?

4. Grand Cafe

Fine wines, perfect martini’s, this is happy hour for grown-ups. Located in a Victorian mansion on Duval but set apart from the hustle and bustle, you are guaranteed a sweet time at the back bar. Enjoy half price beer, wine and martini’s as well as delicious light fare.

3. Smoking Tuna

This saloon is a newer one and located in Old Town on Duval Street. There’s live music, a happening raw bar, sweet drink specials, and a totally fun time. This is the place to go to get your party on!

2. Hog's Breath

This world-famous watering hole is a must-drink-at stop. There is a great, outdoor covered patio, live music, dancing, drinks are flowing and it’s always a party at the Hog’s Breath.

1. Viv Wine Bistro

Viv Wine Bistro's buy an appetizer and wine and get your second glass of wine free is a great deal! They will pair up your wine with something delicious!
