Key West Bars
Key West Bull & Whistle Bar |
Let's face it: a Key West vacation without a healthy dose of
partying just isn't a Key West vacation at all. Key West is the ultimate place
to let your hair down, kick your feet up and enjoy the feel of flip-flops on
your feet every. Single. Day. The trouble with all this relaxing is that Key
West is chock-full of places to do it, and you, Key West visitor, must choose
between them. Although this is by no means the only quality bar in Key West, we
recommend you make time for a visit to the Key West Bull and Whistle Bar on
Duval (where else?).
The Bull and Whistle (technically two bars in one) are
collectively a Key West institution and the last of the Duval Street open-air
bars of yore. In line with the party-all-night personality that is uniquely
Duval, the Bull and Whistle are open seven days a week until 4 am with just a
six-hour break before reopening. There's always live entertainment,
even-more-entertaining patrons and plenty of libational variety. Pick your
poison and go sit on the balcony
upstairs overlooking Duval (the Whistle) or at the big open windows
downstairs (the Bull).
While you're sipping (or chugging, as the case may be), look
around. Key West history – myriad colorful people, places and events that have
made the island what it is – covers the walls in the form of excruciatingly
detailed murals. Key West's past is a source of innumerable fascinating
traditions, legends and stories that make it a place unlike any other.
Like all Key West institutions, the Bull and Whistle have a
risque element that Key West visitors just can't resist: the Garden of Eden,
located on the roof of the Bull and Whistle, is Duval's only clothing-optional
bar and draws the curious, the daring, and, of course, the nude. The Garden of
Eden does not allow minors (not that we think you'd take them), so save it for
a honeymoon or girls' getaway.
The Bull and Whistle are right on the corner of Caroline and
Duval and can easily be reached on foot, by bicycle, or in a cab. Please drink
responsibly, wherever you party in Key West, and happy memory-making!
